Background

In 1997 members of academic staff from the Sectors of Science, Environmental Education and Technology in the Departments of Education took the initiative to start a Conference series.
This Conference series is biennial. Antecedent of the series was the two-day seminar "Science and Technology in Primary Education" organized by the University of Athens in 7-8 February 1997. Then the Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki organized the 1st Panhellenic Conference in Thessaloniki in May 29-31, 1998. The University Of Cyprus organized the 2nd PanHellenic Conference May 3-5, 2000 in Nicosia.

The 3rd PanHellenic Conference on the "Didactics of Science and the Application of New Technologies in Education" is organized by the Department for Primary Education, Laboratory for Science Teaching of the University of Crete and it will be held at the Campus of the University of Crete in Rethymno from 9 to 11 May 2002.
The Conference takes places in-between the European Science Education Research Association - ESERA Conferences. In this way it is possible to focus on Science Education themes that are more specific or more important to Greece.
