The focus of the HSci'2005 Conference is on "Science in a Changing Education". It will be a privileged space for exchange experiences on good practices, syllabus and policy matters, social considerations and other issues related to Hands-on Science. Papers and other presentations may address, among other issues, school education, hands-on learning of science, science & technology literacy, gender bias in the presentation and teaching of science, case studies, ...in all fields of natural Sciences.

A Contact Seminar "European Schools cooperation for an improved Science Education" aimed to the preparation of new Comenius 1 school projects will be organized.

English is the official language of the Conference. Interpretation to Greek may be provided for plenary sessions and keynote presentations.

Proposals are invited for oral or poster presentations, group discussions, Comenius 1 project' proposals, hands-on experiments demonstration' sessions and Science fairs' booths and exhibitions. All accepted submissions will be published in CD format. Selected papers will be published in printed form.

Important Dates:

            Deadline for submission of extended abstracts:  April 22, 2005

            Notification of acceptance:         April 27, 2005

            Deadline for pre-registration:       May 9, 2005

            Final program available:              May 20, 2005

            Camera ready manuscript:          May 25, 2005

 

Oral and Poster Presentations

Oral presentations may be between 15 and 30 minutes in duration. Presentations in the form of video conference are possible. Posters will preferentially be posted for the full length of the meeting. An extended abstract describing the main points and conclusions of the presentation must be submitted in electronic form by April 22, 2005. Hands-on Experiments Demonstrations

Sessions will be scheduled for the presentation and demonstration of experiments. A short abstract of no more than 500 words (two pages including affiliation and figures) describing the experiment must be submitted by April 22, 2005. The experiments will be included in the Science Fair.

Science Fair

Schools, research institutions, industries, Science clubs, groups of students and or teachers, or individuals may prepare a booth for the Conference’ Science Fair. A short abstract of no more than four pages (including affiliation and figures) describing the booth must be submitted by April 22, 2005.

Regular                                                                                                    150euro (200euro after May 9)

Reduced fee for participants presenting a communication                                  100euro (200euro after May 9)

Teacher and students                                                                                 80euro  (150euro after May 9) (1).

 

(1)If enough justification is presented, this fee may be fully waived upon request for teachers and students or teams of students of Science Clubs that will present their work at the conference. Such a request has to be made before April 25. Further conference fee reduction and or other support (travel, lodging or meals) may be awarded upon request for works of exceptional quality or significance. All requests should be made as soon as possible before April 25.
