Registration:

Registration may be effected in any of the following ways:

  • On-site registration. We would be pleased to register you on-site at the beginning of the Conference. Note, however, that, unless prior specific arrangements have been made with the Local Organizers, this option has disadvantages (see Conference fees below and should be chosen only in case of very good reasons. Even then, we strongly advise to make prior arrangements with the Local Organizers. Early registration before June 15, 2010 (pre-registration) is strongly recommended even if you may qualify for a free attendance to the Conference. .
  • Pre-registration. The following steps must be completed in time:
       -download and fill in the Registration form
       -pay the appropriate Conference fee (see the Registration form for details)
       -send the filled in Registration form (together with a scanned copy of the payment slip, if you have paid by bank transfer) to the Local Organizers(r) by e-mail (preferably) or by fax.
  • Through a travel agent. In some cases the Registration may be effected together with travel arrangements. Ask the Local Organizers for this possibility.
  • Otherwise. If you have any other appropriate suggestion we would be happy to consider it.

    (r)All successful registrations will be acknowledged within the next 5 days. If you do not receive such an acknowledgement please inquiry with the Local Organizers.

     

    Conference Fees:

  • Depending on the sponsorship available, the fees below may be further reduced or fully waived upon request, if enough justification is presented. This applies mainly to students, to educators from lower income economies, to groups of students and/or educators organizing a workshop, a Science fair or other activities within the Conference. Requests for reduced fees must be submitted before May 30, 2010.
  • Please note that although we welcome late and on site registrations the Conference fee is higher while some of the items included in the Conference fee may not be available (see details below).
  • Travel and Accommodation is the responsibility of every participant. If you need help see the information in Place-Venu pages or ask the Local Organizers.

    The Conference Fee includes:

  • Attendance to the Conference lectures, exhibitions, Science fair, Demonstrations and relevant activities.
  • Coffee and Refreshments during the Conference Coffee breaks.
  • Light lunch when it is mentioned in the Conference program.

  • Conference Proceedings in electronic form (may not be available to those registering after June 25, 2010),
  • Conference bag with information material about Rethymno and Crete (may not be available to those registering after June 25, 2010).
  • Paper printed Proceedings (may not be available to those registering after June 15, 2010).
  • Conference Dinner (may not be available to those registering after June 25, 2010).

    The focus of the HSci'2005 Conference is on "Bridging the Science and Society gap". It will be a privileged space to exchange experiences on Science teaching good practices, on Science syllabus and policy matters, on social considerations and other issues related to Hands-on Science. Papers and other presentations may address, among other issues, school education, hands-on learning of science, science & technology literacy, gender bias in the presentation and teaching of science, case studies ...in all fields of natural Sciences.

    Proposals are invited for Oral and Video or Poster presentations, for Workshops and Group discussions, for Comenius project proposals, for Hands-on experiments demonstration sessions and Science fair booths and for Exhibitions. Submissions and inquiries about the Conference content should be sent in electronic form (by e-mail) to the Local Organizers.

    English is the official language of the Conference. Interpretation to Greek may be provided for plenary sessions and keynote presentations.

    All accepted submissions will be published and distributed in electronic format. Selected papers will be published in printed form.

    For any accepted contribution to the Conference, at least one of the authors should pre-register in time.

    • Oral and Video Presentations may be between 15 and 30 minutes in duration. Presentations in the form of video conference are possible. An abstract (in MS-Word .doc or in Open-Office format) describing the main points and conclusions of the presentation must be submitted electronically and in time (see Important Dates). If accepted, the final "camera ready" version must be submitted electronically in accordance with the detailed instructions described here (right click and "Save Target As" or “Save Link as) to download the file). Fail to meet the deadlines will result to the omission of the submitted work from the printed proceedings and may disqualify an accepted work.
    • Poster presentations will preferentially be displayed for the full length of the Conference. An abstract describing the main points and conclusions of the work must be submitted electronically and in time (see Important Dates). For advice on the format and other guidance click here.
    • Workshops and Group Discussions. Sessions may be scheduled for Workshops and Group Discussions. A relevant request of no more than 500 words (no more than 2 pages including affiliation and figures) must be submitted electronically and in time (see Important Dates). The request should include the name and affiliation of the coordinator of the Workshop or Group Discussion and the names and affiliations of at least three other participants. The coordinator should provide a summary of the workshop or Group Discussion to be included within the Proceedings page of the Conference site. Works discussed at Workshops may be included in the electronic and paper proceedings of the Conference if submitted in time and in accordance with the rules for Oral and Video or Poster Presentations (see previously).For advice on the format of the presentations and other guidance click here.
    • Comenius Contact Seminars aiming at the formation of consortia to submit Comenius project proposals to the European Union are encouraged among the participants to the Conference. Please send electronically any requests to the Local Organizers by June 15, 2010. Also a Comenius HelpDesk will be available during the Conference. Its purpose will be to facilitate the formation of consortia in order to present new applications under the Comenius scheme of the Life Long Learning program.
    • Demonstrations of Hands-on Experiments. Sessions will be scheduled for the presentation and demonstration of experiments. A short abstract of no more than 500 words (no more than 2 pages including affiliation and figures per experiment) must be submitted electronically and in time (see Important Dates). For advice on the format of the abstract and other guidance click here. The experiments will be included in the Science Fair.
    • Science Fair and Exhibitions. Schools, research institutions, industries, Science clubs, groups of students and/or teachers, or individuals may prepare a booth for the Conference Science Fair. A short abstract of no more than four pages (including affiliation and figures) describing the booth must be submitted electronically the Local Organizers by June 15, 2010.
