About HPM

HPM is the International Study Group on the Relations between History and Pedagogy of Mathematics affiliated to the International Commission on Mathematical Instruction (ICMI).
By combining the history of mathematics with the teaching and learning of mathematics, HPM is the link between the past and the future of mathematics. Therefore, the group aims at stressing the conception of mathematics as a living science, a science with a long history, a vivid present and an as yet unforeseen future.
Among members of the group are researchers in mathematics education, mathematicians, historians of mathematics, teachers of mathematics and curriculum developers.

HISTORY OF THE HPM GROUP

On the occasion of the 25th years of the group John Fauvel and Florence Fasanelli planned to write a history of the HPM.
The final version of the text was prepared by Florence Fasanelli after John has passed away in 2001, and has been published in the
Proceedings of HPM 2004 & ESU 4: ICME 10 Satellite Meeting of the HPM Group & Fourth  European Summer University  on the History and Epistemology in  Mathematics Education, edited by Furinghetti, F., Kaisjer, S., & Tzanakis, C. University of Crete, Greece, 2006, pp.x-xxviii.
It is entitled

An account of what has been done in the last few years, is included in the Quadrennial Report 2004-2008, which is a slightly updated version of the report that appeared in the ICMI Bulletin No 62, Jume 2008

More recent information with many cross references can be found in the following article:
