Seminars. For inquiries please click here

The main objective of AESTIT is the development and the delivery of training seminars in Science and Technology. Although many of the seminars may be attended by any person interested in Science and Technology, the seminars address mainly the in-service and the pre-service teachers in primary and secondary education.
Depending on the specific seminar and relevant requests, seminars may be delivered:

  • by face to face traditional training (a minimum number of trainees may be required),
  • adapted in a language other than the one depicted here.
  • by methods of Distant Education using INTERNET.

The seminars developed fall into the following categories (versions of a seminar in multiple categories are possible):

1.-Long term informal training courses in which specific topics, mainly from the school curricula, are studied in detail. Long term seminars are designed for 30 to 40 teaching hours. Their contents include short presentations by the trainer(s) while most of the time is devoted to the trainees completing assigned tasks related to the topic under study.

2.-Short term informal training courses focused on specific issues. These are designed for 3 to 10 teaching hours. Their contents include, usually, a presentation of 1 to 3 teaching hours and a project carried out by the trainees for the rest of the allocated time.

3.-Lectures of duration of up to 3 teaching hours, in which main points of an existing or under development training course are presented. Sometimes they are based on publications produced within the AESTIT project (see Outcomes) and they summarize the experience gained from the delivery of the training courses developed so far.

The "Laboratory of Educational Robotics" may be used in schools either as a formal teaching subject or as an educational environment for the cross-thematic or interdisciplinary teaching of issues from Science and Technology. The long seminar titled "Laboratory of Educational Robotics" is a training course designed to teach the basic concepts of Robots and Robot programming and their potential use in schools and in everyday life activities. During the first part of this seminar, the trainees are guided to construct a simple robot while, in the second part, the trainees are asked to think of, design and construct a robot of their own choice.

The use of modern professional equipment for Science experiments in schools may result in accurate experimental measurements. However, this type of equipment may be outside the school budget while the effort of the students to understand the operation of the, usually complex, equipment consumes precious school time and it may also obstruct the ideas and concepts of the phenomenon under study. Also, it develops the attitude that Science and Technology requires special equipment and it should be better left to the experts. These are serious drawbacks for general education Science and Technology, especially for the Science and Technology based societies. In this course, after a brief theoretical introduction, commentaries on a series of observations from everyday life together with ideas to conduct Science experiments with self-made apparatus are presented. Trainees are asked to engage and conduct themselves some of these experiments in a series of projects.
